Business Analysis Careers
Business analysis is distinct from financial analysis, project management, quality assurance, organizational development, testing, training and documentation development. However, depending on the organization, a business analyst may perform some or all of these related functions.
BA Career Focus
Business analysis job profiles can be organized into the following three categories:
Generalist
- Competent across all areas of business analysis
- Uses a variety of techniques in initiatives of varying scope and circumstances
- Found at various levels in the organization
Specialist
- Possesses solid or advanced subject matter expertise in specific areas
- Applies a more focused set of techniques with greater levels of expertise to potentially resolve extremely complex business problems
- May be at any level of experience
Hybrid
- Demonstrates some degree of competency across a more limited set of knowledge areas or tasks
- Requires some degree of competency in business analysis and some other discipline
- Performs multiple roles: a “jack of all trades”

2010 Business Analysis Salary Survey
IIBA is pleased to present the results of the 2010 Salary Survey. This survey was completed by more than 4,100 business analysis professionals around the world in August and September of 2010. The sponsors of the survey were ASPE-SDLC, Ravenflow and IIBA®.
Once again, the survey shows that certification has a very strong impact on salary.
