February 2017 - Vijay George
Vijay George will present: User Requirements are a Fallacy
We will explore why gathering user requirements up front then building the application has been a massive failure in IT. This is akin to asking the guy who has been driving a horse and buggy what he wants from his new car before he knows anything about a car. Waterfall approach to IT has failed and the success of Agile shows the path forward. We will explore how we should create an environment for 'continuous release' and 'always in beta' to realize quicker value and lower risk even for your most complex IT projects.
Learning Objectives
- Importance of Leadership and Organizational Change Management in managing requirements;
- Requirements and feature list would benefit from an MVP (minimal viable product) approach;
- Changing the development cycle to iterative with teaming between developers and users;
- Recognizing the human is an integral part of the system and must be experienced; and
- IT role with the business should be partner based instead of customer / service provider based.
